It takes a village...

Jonathan and Shannon's baby (Spenser) was baptized this morning. It was your average baptism, other than the fact that everyone at Bethlehem thinks this baby belongs partly to them. Dad being the youth director and Mom teaching at the pre-school makes Spenser a BLC staple. Plus she's really cute. But it's almost annoying how much ownership these people feel over her. I'm sure Jonathan knows how that goes, as a pastor's kid himself, how much the congregation wants to participate in Spenser's upbringing.

Similarly, yesterday was my cousin Karrie's baby shower. Her baby boy is due on July 26, and isn't going to need any new clothes until roughly age 2. It was hysterical how many packages she opened of ridiculous stuff. At least I know that when it's my turn, I'll have no shortage of crazy family members to buy everything with the word "baby" in it for me.

I guess I'm torn between feeling like these kids are going to be exhausted by how many people are around all the time, and feeling that these kids are so lucky for how many people are invested in their lives. There are plenty of children who don't have anyone invested in their futures, let alone entire congregations or entire extended crazy families.

Part one.

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on.
