Helping JOMO get its MOJO back!

10 high schoolers.
2 camp counselors.
1 pastoral intern (that's me).
1 dad.
1 van.
1456 miles, round trip.
1 week of service and fun in Joplin, MO.

This is, essentially, what Joplin looks like. Flat. Lots of sky. We played frisbee pretty much every day of the whole trip. In this photo, our adult leader Scott is making a probably great catch.

Here are our kids lounging around in the girls' room, being teenagers.

Lyndsey's dad trusted her with the staple gun, really close to his fingers, while they upholstered some chairs for the church we were staying at.

Here's Chris, the local coordinator of our work projects, giving us the scoop for the day. If you haven't already heard about the, uh, trials and tribulations of my interactions with Chris, just ask! It's a doozy of a story.

Chris dubbed us "Team Jesus" -- here we are, sweating profusely, hearing about the work we're going to do.

Some kids and their shovels. Also, post-hole digger.

The holes had to be four feet deep, so here's Christian, putting his leg all the way in. Like you do.

We cleaned up some lumber from the tornado (pulled the nails out, sawed off the rough ends) so it could be re-used to build things.

Molly and Emily got a little muddy. Please note that it says "Jesus" on her forehead.

One of the days, Trevor and Noah struggled a little to start up the generator for the saws. They look pretty cool doing it, though.

On the last day, Emily volunteered to have the cooler dumped over her head. Obviously.

All in all, it was an incredible experience. The kids had a blast, learned a lot, worked really hard, experienced a whole new culture and a whole new way to talk about God, ate a lot of BBQ, and got really sunburned. And I made some new friends! Church is cool, y'all.
